Concert of the Ages

Is there a job or talent that you’ve long desired to have, but know that it’s just never going to happen. For example, say I always dreamed of being a jockey. No matter how badly I wanted it, that’s just something I have to accept is not going to happen. Actually, I have no desire to be a jockey. WHEW! But something I have wanted to be that I know I never will be is a youth minister. I’ve spent many hours imagining what life would be like if I were a youth minister. But at 37 years old and with a family of 4, it’s not going to happen. And now I don’t even know if I would have been any good as one. Another job I’ve always imagined being is a Worship Leader. You know when people are singing in the shower, or alone listening to music, I often find myself imagining what it would be like leading a group in worship. I’m not sure what that says about me. Maybe I’m just drawn to the fame and attention. Which would also mean I would be a lousy worship leader. Fortunately, we’ll never know because I can’t carry a tune in a bucket. I remember trying out for choir in the 5th grade and was rejected. It was downhill from there. I think that was the first (and last) year that the elementary choir actually turned people (or a person) down. Every other year, they were bribing kids with candy to join the choir.
On a similar note, have you ever thought about what job or responsibility you will be performing in heaven? Have you even considered that you will have a job in heaven? The Parable of the Talents in Matthew 25 seems to imply that we will. The Master says to the faithful servant, “You were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master.” So can we assume that God will put us in charge of a number of things proportional to how well we manage the resources He gives us here on earth? It sounds like it.
So maybe I do have a future as a worship leader? That’s one of the many things I am looking forward to in heaven, having a good singing voice. Can you imagine the first worship session we participate in in heaven? What’s the biggest choir you’ve ever heard? Well imagine millions of voices, all being lifted up at the same time. It’s gonna be awesome.
