I just love it when athlete’s tell the truth. It’s always much more interesting then the “we just take it 1 game at a time” cliches. Jared Lorenzen is battling for the 3rd string QB this preseason for the Indianapolis Colts. Of course Peyton Manning is the starter and his long time, little-known, backup is Jim Sorgi. But right now, both of them are injured, so somebody has run out on the field and hand the ball off. In an interview with Jared Lorenzen, aka the “Hefty Lefty”, he said this:

“I’m not here to be the starting quarterback. I’m not here to be the backup. I’m out there to prove that just in case something God-awful goes wrong, I can step in and run this offense and I’m not going to lose the game.”

Isn’t it refreshing to hear somebody tell the truth once in a blue moon. He’s now become my favorite 3rd string QB, assuming he wins the job.

Last year, the final game of the season for the Tampa Bay Lightning drew 17,000+ Floridians in attendance. The Lightening were the worst team in the league, and it’s Hockey… in Florida. In contrast, the Tampa Bay Rays, (a baseball team) have the best record in the American League heading into September. Last night they had just over 12,000 in attendance. Can somebody please explain that to me? So Tampa Bay is a hockey town? Or they just hate baseball? What’s wrong with the people in Tampa? Being a Ranger fan, I can’t even imagine what kind of hoopla would be going on here in north Texas if the Rangers had the best record in the AL. Rangers tickets would be a tough find. Tampa clearly does not deserve a baseball team.  Can we trade them our team?
