I don’t remember exactly when I started, but it was probably about the time Jaxon (my now 5 year old son) began to talk, I would ask him at just random times “Do You Know What?” And of course he would always say, “What?” And my response would always be, “I am SO glad that Jesus let you be my little boy and let me be your Daddy.” He would usually just look at me and smile and then change the subject or have no response. As most of you reading this already know, we adopted Jaxon when he was 2 days old. So my response to him had much figurative and literal meaning behind it. And then at some point, not too long ago, Jaxon changed his response to me. When I would say, “Do You Know What?”, he no longer replied, “What?” anymore. Here is what he says now every time I ask him, “Do You Know What?” Excitedly, he replies, “I know what you are going to say! You are going to say you are so glad that Jesus let me be your little boy. Is that right?” Of course a big smile comes across my face, and I say, “You are exactly right!” Even when we don’t think kids are paying attention to us, they are.
