Look My Way

Lenny LeBlanc is one of my favorite worship singer/songwriters, and he wrote and sings a song I really like called “Look My Way”. Here’s how it goes:
If You’re looking for somebody who loves You
Won’t You look my way, look my way
If You’re looking for somebody to praise You
Just look my way, look my way
Won’t You look my way, look my way
I don’t have many things to offer
Just a passion for You
Every day I get a little bit closer
Closer to You
Lord You have my heart
You have my soul
One more thing that I want You to know
If You’re looking for somebody who loves You
Won’t You look my way, look my way
If You’re looking for somebody to praise You
Just look my way, look my way
Won’t You look my way, look my way
Lord I want to give glory and honor to Your name
I just want to see Your mighty power fall like rain
Lord You have my heart You have my soul
One more thing that I Want You to know
Jesus won’t You look my way
I really like that song. It sounds even better with the music :-). But as I’ve been thinking, I wonder how many Christians could honestly sing that song and mean it? I think a lot of long-time (I started to use the word “mature”, but decided against it) Christians, if they were being honest, would have to sing that song very differently. Maybe it would go something like this:
If you are looking for somebody to stand here like a fence post
Look my way, won’t you look my way
And if you’re looking for somebody to get excited when my favorite team wins
I’m your man.
If You’re looking for somebody to praise You
Don’t look at me, Don’t look at me
If You’re looking for somebody to praise You
Go try one of those crazy Pentecostal churches
They are just crazy enough to do it
OK, I know, my version doesn’t rhyme. But it’s kind of catchy.
